Be more than they think they can
On a February afternoon in 2004, I was at a workshop being asked to draw a picture of myself at my happiest. I drew myself sitting around a group of children, telling them a story.
She is now living her dream: running Theatre With Simran for young people. Her nearly 2-decade long experience in the space culminated in a theatre company with a unique take on what Drama can do for young people.

Hundreds of children have been through our programs, designed for different age groups and interests, which go beyond typical drama classes to create original plays, scripts and stories with children in the school set-up, and also as after-school enrichment programs. From one batch of ten children, our classes have grown to more than ten times that with several batches of classes in both North and South Delhi and a loyal following. We are proud to say that children keep coming back to us. Some of them joined us at the ages of 2 or 3, and ten years later, we are still learning and growing together. Some of them have graduated to assisting our facilitators and working backstage on productions.
Founder’s Belief
Our programs focus on encouraging young learners to work with their imaginations and improvisation as well as different materials like text, music, props, puppets, and artwork to create exciting and meaningful stories and plays. But the finished play is not the focus of our programs.
Our final presentation is usually small, intimate, and casual in every way except the content. What we emphasize is the journey taken to reach the finished pieces – which is designed to be an enriching experience. During this journey, we encourage our children to talk, to question situations, people, feelings, and characters.
Our classes are a space where there is no right or wrong. A space that acknowledges different perspectives. Where they can explore and experiment without judgment, where we can listen to them, and they can feel heard.
